What does it mean to be human?

Yesterday, while I was off sick, we looked at a story about a horrible ritual - one where every year someone in the village is killed.  This story makes suggestions about the worst aspects of human nature.

Your task for today (after we have read some more of The Hate You Give) is to make a list in groups of all the qualities of human nature.  The A3 sheet of paper for each group will have the starter:

In your groups, make a brainstorm of all the qualities humans can have, with short examples.

e.g. Humans can be kind.  For example, they will share food with other humans who have no money.

e.g. Humans can be innovative.  They will study science to come up with solutions to terrible diseases.

We will have ten minutes on this task, and then I will collect everyone's work and scan it and add to the blog.

Our final activity is to look at this short film about Sophie Pascoe, and ask ourselves "What does being human mean for Sophie?
